Inspection

Move-Out Inspection

A documented check of a rental property at the end of a tenancy, used to determine security-deposit deductions.

What is a Move-Out Inspection?

A move-out inspection is performed when a tenant vacates a property. It is compared to the move-in inspection to identify tenant-caused damage, and is used to determine security-deposit deductions.

Process

  1. Inspect the property using the same template as the move-in
  2. Compare to the move-in record (side-by-side photos)
  3. Document any new damage
  4. Calculate repair / replacement costs
  5. Sign by landlord and tenant
  6. Return the deposit (less lawful deductions) within the legal timeframe

Modern Tools

A digital system that diffs the move-in and move-out reports automatically saves hours and reduces disputes.
