Confined Space Entry

Entry into a space that is not designed for continuous occupancy, has limited access and egress, and may contain hazardous atmospheres.

What is Confined Space Entry?

A confined space is a space that is large enough for a worker to enter, has limited or restricted means of entry/exit, and is not designed for continuous occupancy. Entry into these spaces is regulated by OSHA due to the serious hazards they present.

Permit-Required Confined Space

A confined space that contains or has the potential to contain a hazardous atmosphere, material with engulfment potential, converging walls, or any other serious safety hazard.

Entry Requirements

  1. Entry permit signed by authorized person
  2. Atmospheric testing before and during entry
  3. Ventilation
  4. Attendant stationed outside
  5. Rescue plan in place
  6. Communication procedures established
  7. PPE and rescue equipment available
