Construction Blueprint

A detailed technical drawing that shows the design, dimensions, and specifications of a building or structure before construction begins.

What is a Construction Blueprint?

A construction blueprint is a detailed technical drawing that serves as the primary communication tool between the design team and the construction team. Despite the name, modern blueprints are no longer blue — they are printed in black and white or viewed digitally.

What Blueprints Show

  • Floor plans, elevations, and sections
  • Dimensions and tolerances
  • Material specifications
  • Structural details
  • MEP layouts
  • Detail drawings and schedules

Blueprint Revisions

Blueprints go through multiple revisions during design. The contractor must always verify they are working from the latest revision. Digital plan rooms and BIM models have largely replaced paper blueprints.

How SpaceCapture Helps

SpaceCapture's inspection checklists can be linked directly to blueprint references, ensuring inspectors verify work against the correct specification and revision.
