Punch List

A document listing work that does not conform to contract specifications, typically created near the end of a project.

What is a Punch List?

A punch list (or snag list in the UK) is a document prepared near the end of a construction project listing items that do not conform to contract specifications. The general contractor must complete or correct these items before final payment.

Common Items

  • Cosmetic defects (scratches, scuffs, paint issues)
  • Missing or incorrect hardware
  • Performance issues (sticking windows, leaking faucets)
  • Incomplete installations
  • Cleanup and touch-up

Digital Punch Lists

Modern punch lists are created from a mobile app during the inspection, with each item geo-tagged, photo-evidenced, and assigned to the responsible sub. Status is tracked to closeout.
