Electrical Safety in Construction

Key Hazards

  • **Electrocution** — death from electrical contact
  • **Electrical burns** — from arc flash or direct contact
  • **Electrical fires** — from faulty wiring or overloaded circuits
  • **Arc flash** — explosion from short circuit

Key Requirements

  • Ground-fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) on all 120V outlets
  • Assured equipment grounding conductor program
  • Assured grounding program
  • Only qualified persons work on energized equipment
  • Lockout/tagout before servicing
  • Proper cable and cord management
  • Temporary wiring standards
